Urda Eichhorst is a Project Director at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). She heads the NDC Transport Initiative for Asia - a joint initiative of seven partner institutions. The initiative operates in three countries: Vietnam, India and China and on regional level, aiming to shift the discourse on transforming transport towards full decarbonisation of the sector in Asia.

Urda consults partner countries on their climate strategies in the transport sector and related transparency frameworks. She has 15 years of experience working on the transport and climate nexus, including both mitigation and adaptation in transport.

Previously, Urda worked in different advisor and project management positions in GIZ’s transport team. From 2012-2014, she was placed in the Beijing office of GIZ as manager of the low-carbon transport component of the German-Chinese Climate Programme.

Before joining GIZ, Urda was a project director at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, where she worked at the interface of international climate and transport policy.

Urda holds a Master of Science in "Environmental Change and Management" from the University of Oxford (focus on climate change, energy policy, adaptation) and a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese studies from the University of Würzburg.
